Encoding that as a per-stage complexity budget and an unlocking family list is our design decision, grounded in that evidence rather than a single measured curve. How the generator uses this

  • It estimates a stage from the vision profile — corrected age on the guided path, or the measured-acuity band on the direct path — and offers stage-appropriate families (bold geometric shapes first; simple faces from ~2 months; real-world silhouettes from ~3–4 months).
  • It sets a complexity budget for that stage (sparse and bold early → busier later), which you can dial within — or, in Advanced, override entirely.

Practical takeaways

  • Bold and simple beats busy and detailed for a young baby. When in doubt, go simpler.
  • Rotate a few patterns and regenerate every few weeks as your baby grows — a fixed set goes stale as their vision improves.
